Gilbert

Looks like the credit repository bureaus sometimes neglect removing bankruptsy after the regulatory 7 years. Also, lack of use of your credit cards lowers your credit score, as does closing old unused accounts. The FICA rules are very capricious. Go figure. The best is to try to get letters from all creditors whose accounts are erroneously reported, and have those letters reflect the reality of your accounts.

However, you have an excelent credit score, better than many Americans. Good for you.

I suggest that you look at how many inquiries you have on your credit report. A simple way to improve you score is to delete those. If you have been applying for a lot of credit cards, loans, mortgages, etc. than you probably have multiple inquiries. I suggest you look into getting some inquiry removal letters to send to the credit bureaus or you can use the source below as a cheap option as it can be hard to remove inquiries.

Jose

Congrats on recovering from that bankruptcy! Keep up the great work.

Snarky's wife is right...if you don't have any debt, you're probably not doing anything that will act to improve your score.

ManageMyScore.com may be able to help here. ManageMyScore will start with your credit report and enable you to see the impact of anything you might try to do (open new accounts, pay off other debt, close accounts, transfer balances between accounts, etc). This will enable you to determine the best course of action based on your goals for your credit score.

The online service is under $30, and discount code “Yahoo113025D” will take 25% off until November 30. That’s probably the best place to start and will get you the most accurate information, about what things will drive your score in what direction.

Russell

You have a very good score, assuming that is an actual FICO score.

If you have no open credit lines established, then your credit score will not increase. You can't maintain a good history of paying bills if you have no bills to pay.

Make sure you have between one and three revolving accounts with a balance less than 10% of the available credit.

A small installment loan may be helpful as well. Creditors like to see that you can handle a mix of credit.

Has your bankruptcy dropped off your reports yet?

Matthew

Is the bankruptcy still showing? If so, it should roll off soon. This should be a big boost to your score. In order to get the 800+ scores, you will need a couple of open major credit cards with either zero or very low balances, you will need to continue to build on the length of your credit...

If you look at your report with the score, it should have a list of the items that raise and lower your score.
