Matthew L asked:

Hello, I am a 24 year old college student who has some bad credit. I cant even get a best buy card or a maceys accont. I only have about $3000, yes three thounds dollars(i pay cash), in student loans and have NO credit cards.(i payed them all off in one lump sum) My credit however is not the best.

How can i improve my credit rating without have anything to pay off?

and how can i get something to pay off to show that i can do it with bad credit already in hand.

If anyone can help me here i would be greatful!!

thanks

Matt

Check out the links in my profile. There are two very good and FREE (read: NOT spam) informational sites in there to help you get started.

    Good luck.

    **** EDIT ****

This is what happens when you let a bunch of people, who have no clue what they are talking about, come in and comment on a subject.

All these people telling you that only time will fix your credit couldn’t be more wrong. If they read the links I provided they would see the multiple methods for repairing and rebuilding your credit.

    Time is what you need.

Get a free copy of your credit reports. Look for errors, or open accounts that you have closed, or are not yours. Make sure there are no errors.

Keep a job, and pay any bills you have fully, and on time.

Maybe your parents can co-sign for a car? Just make sure you can pay the bill, and easily afford the payments.

The cards you paid off, are they still open? Will that company allow you to have a card with them again, with a low credit limit?

Keep your nose clean, and with time your credit will improve. There is no company that can clean up your credit, or fix it legally.

Time is the only thing that will help you right now. Do not apply for any credit cards/loans for at least 6 months. Pay all your current bills ON TIME – it kills your credit to be late. You are young so your earning potential will increase. Wait and be patient. It does get better but you have to build up some positive history before you are granted more credit.
