How to improve my credit score? To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your scoreyou still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs.

Ruby

I have a friend who did this and got her score to shoot up significantly. She open a secured personal loan at a financial institution. Okay...let me expalin. She got a loan for $500. She secured this loan with $500. When you secure a loan like this a bank will not turn you down. But remember this is a short term loan. After exactly one month pay off the loan. Your credit score will increase because of it. This transaction is sort of like getting a secured credit card. You provide the money for the card. You use it wisely, like a charge for under $20, then repay it. Your score reflects because of it. She did this consistently for about 6 months to help build her credit. And boy did her credit go up.
Here is another trick. Order all 3 of your credit reports. Then dispute errors on your credit report. Creditors have exactly 30 days to dispute or correct it. If they do not respond they have to remove it from your credit report. BOOM! Your score increases due their nonresponse.

Or just pay your entire balances on your credit card and wait 30 days. It will reflect on your credit.

Good Luck!

Did your lender pull your credit report and tell you the score? If so, see if your lender can run a creditexpert analysis with their credit vendor. They can project the # of points that need to be improved and the credit bureau will make recommendations on what you need to do to reach the projected score.

Amber

Sounds like you're planning to throw all your unsecured credti card debt into that refi. Do you plan to close those credit cards or at least not charge anything?

If you run those credit cards back up, you could end up losing your house.

Don

Pay the credit cards early, don't wait until the last day. Try paying them three weeks early. If you only have $400 in debt, there's not much you can do, because that's actually pretty low. It's the lates that are hurting you, and they don't improve until months go by. Don't open a new credit card, because that takes about 18 months until it doesn't affect your credit. If your debts are more than 20% of your limit, ask the credit card companies to up your limit, so that your percentage of debt is smaller. If you have it all on one card and that makes it go over 20%, put some on another card. You could also improve your credit by putting money in a bank or credit union and taking out a secured loan for the same amount (secured because the money is held by the bank), and then paying it off quickly to show you're responsible, that would help.

Geraldine

Pay your credit cards off, thats all you can do. Opening a bank account helps and looks good, but you have to elimate all your debt first. My credit is screwed by just a capital one credit card... good luck!
